Reading for me

I know one of the fundamental ways to establish a love of reading is for my child to see me reading. I just struggle to find the time for it, but recently I have been carving out time for myself to read actual books. This made me remember something, I LOVE to read! I love to emerge myself into another world and lose myself in a wonderful story for awhile.

Here are my thoughts on my first two pleasure books:

I don't think I've ever read a story like this before, don't get me wrong there are plenty of Vampire books out there, but this author took a minor character from another Novel and devoted a story to her. It was amazing and eye opening to come at this story from a completely different angle. Bree was a unique vampire story of a "newbie" and a unique character who I'm sure would have fit right in with the Cullens had she been given the opportunity.

Room by Emma Donoghue

This book was recommended and lent to me by a friend with a warning of "wait until the weekend, because you won't want to stop reading it". I started it yesterday and finished it this afternoon, I did make myself stop reading it to sleep and spend time with my family today though. Hmm, I think I just said this, but I've never read a book like this before. It was written from the perspective of a 5 year old born into captivity. In some ways it was a psychological thriller which is right up my alley, but it was so much more than that. I struggled initially with stepping into the mind of this 5 year old, but I was so glad I did. I loved learning about the ROOM from him, and how his life and the world exploded around him.
